"As a child I remember being struck by the illustrations of Dante's inferno, a work by a Flemish artist I saw on the edition of The Divine Comedy my parents were collecting in numbers. I had the same feelings in front of Bosch's Garden of Earthly Delights. I am strongly attracted to art, major or minor, that is capable of generating amazement and wonder. This is exactly what I'm seeking when I try to paint a picture. I'd say I feel very close to Bosch and Walt Disney, just as I feel close to the lessons of the surrealists. I think my stance toward a type of fantastical baroque painting derives above all from the popular culture of the comics I grew up on, without forgetting that I come from a land that is by definition baroque."
