In Stefania Romano's photographic images figures from her own experiences and imagination take on form inside fragments of a dark landscape. "Every one of us is the product of our own biography. Mine has brought me to see things lightly but not superficially,' the photographer says. One of the focal points in Stefania Romano's poetics is disguise, which is used to suggest an imaginative and dreamlike world. Her works are characterized by their mix of vision and objective fact. Night takes a leading role, carrying with it a genuine note of ambiguity and mystery that confers an oneiric inflection to all of her compositions. (A.T.)
