Born in Palermo in 1977. Lives in Palermo Alessandro Di Giugno's photographic work is distinguished by its focus on the portrait genre. The artist explores every aspect of the human repertoire, and succeeds in merging a strong interest in reality with an unequivocal vocation for artifice and set construction. This is the case in the pictures of the Vucciria series, in which faces fished out of the chaos of the famous Palermitan market are transformed into enigmatic presences, or in the Alberi series, in which the vegetation, flooded by artificial light, appears transfigured, altered by an acidic and unnatural coloring that becomes even more shrill against the sky's deep obscurity. The artist's attention to nature is further reflected in the Gioco di ruoli series, in which figures from historical and fairy-tale fantasy (archers, wizards, soldiers) pose before the lens on a landscape background. The limit between documentation and fiction appears transient, the rendition of reality continually grafted onto imaginary and sometimes dreamlike elements.
