Born in Catania in 1970. Lives in Milan Ever since his very first paintings based on the reworking of film stills, Davide La Rocca's research has been characterized by his attention to hyper-realism in painting and photography, and his interest in the serial and fractal reproduction of the image. An ‘optical' sort of language is accompanied by portraits of people captured in particular positions or expressions, as in, for example, the Versatori cycle, which abounds in references to seventeenth-century iconography. Through a kind of painting he defines as "mathematical," made by fragmented pointillist brushstrokes, La Rocca chooses to look at the surrounding universe through an analytical eye. His works blend technical ability and technology to provide a vision of reality filtered through his own subjective vision and interpretation. (A.T.) |
