Born in Palermo in 1974. Lives in Palermo Andrea Buglisi's paintings portray everyday objects, portraits, and self-portraits on real decorative patterns drawn from graphic and contemporary design as well as 1960s and 1970s advertising campaigns. His oeuvre is characterized by the subtle play of kitsch and revival, and the use of bright acidic colors. In some cases, the space of the composition is actually organized in painted comic ‘strips.' Buglisi uses these strategies to reflect on commonplace aspects of everyday life, on childhood memories, and on the positive messages promulgated by advertising mechanisms, drawing on television fiction and the video game sequences in such a way as to achieve a sense of nonsense that becomes a highly realistic picture.
