Born in Catania nel 1970. Lives in Catania.

Coming from a multidisciplinary background, Giuliana Lo Porto takes advantage of different means of expression, giving preference to performance and installation. As a performer herself, she collaborates with experimental theater groups, promoting the contamination between the visual arts and acting (see her role in the Napoli Teatro Festival Italia, 2008). In her early works Lo Porto relied on natural organic materials. Later on, she began to use more common objects taken out of their normal context and reinterpreted according to the message they were meant to convey: installations, for example, composed of household items-cups, a full tea services, and chalices-made out of sugar. In her more recent works Lo Porto deals with various aspects of human existence's transitory nature, tracing its most obsessive themes and establishing an increasing evident bond with the public, which she calls upon to participate in her strongly symbolic performances.
