Fulvio Di Piazza's painting is characterized by the precision and detail with which he portrays imaginary figures and surreal scenes. His interest in landscapes and natural elements is paralleled by the faces he composes out of tiny bodies and vegetal entities, the meticulousness of which is Flemish in flavor. These figures refer to a dreamy and paradoxical world: they combine iconographies and genres inspired by ‘fantasy' literature, with an added focus on comics, film, and video games. From lunar scenes to imaginary forests, Di Piazza images bristle with natural life: tiny Martian-like monsters, colorful mushrooms, and flowers of every sort give life to imaginative stories that often conceal a cruel and ironic component.
