Francesco Spampinato has always been interested in painting but, in the past few years, he has also begun to work with other media, such as performances, sound, and writing. His attention is focused on exploring the perceptual mechanisms that lead to an interest in altered states, like those induced by drugs (see for example the Transients series), strong emotions, hypnosis (Experiencing Hypnotism) and sudden and uncontrolled events such as explosions and natural cataclysms. A constant in his work is the contamination between disciplines, aimed at exploring different ways of interpreting space. His pictorial work is also based on the suggestion of new time-space coordinates, a solution that seems to recall seventeenth-century baroque trompe-l'oeil and is characterized by the use of acid colors, precipitous structures, and organic and dynamic psychedelic elements. The paintings strive for an increasingly direct relationship with the spectator, who has been directly involved in the most recent performances.
