The canecapovolto group was formed in Catania in 1992 by Alessandro Aiello, Enrico Aresu, and Alessandro De Filippo

Continuously experimenting in various media including acoustic films, videos, happenings, and collages, canecapovolto investigates the expressive potential of vision and the dynamics of perception, adopting original techniques for treating and manipulating images. Starting from film, from visual and sound experiments initially tied to super-8 shorts, the group draws on various audio-video production techniques, ‘sabotaging' the initial media image to catch viewers off-guard. A great deal of attention is paid to investigating the scientific communication model and its response in the viewer. The themes the videos take on refer to a continuously changing social universe, with particular emphasis on the world of performance, reinforcing the already existing link with certain practices of the French Situationists. Various senses are engaged by canecapovolto's most recent projects, such as Helmut Doppel, Uomo Massa and Presente Continuo. Their current project, Stereo_Verso Infinito, perfects a system of audiovisual cataloguing and classification according to a methodology similar to the creation of a ‘metalanguage.'
