The /barbaragurrieri/group was formed in 2002 by Barbara Gurrieri (1978) and Emanuele Tumminelli (1977), both of whom were born in Vittoria (Ragusa), where they live and work.

The /barbaragurrieri/group uses painting, video, and various photographic techniques to disclose the feelings of doubt and insecurity concealed behind the apparent certainties of everyday life. Their work often explores regional issues, human behavior, and the emotions involved in interpersonal relations. The first phase of every work includes careful observation and in-depth analysis of places, people, and social mechanisms. This research is crucial in creating and staging performances in which the artists themselves act out the main roles. The use of one's own image is not intended as a self-portrait, but as way of communicating one's own experience and shared emotional states, which are attested by the photographic, pictorial, and video works that remain.
