Born in Palermo in 1975. Lives in Palermo

Adalberto Abbate's work reveals a strong social and anthropological bent. It starts from a careful study of everyday life, history, and the most pressing social issues, which are often reinterpreted in an ironic and irreverent way. The artist also explores the mechanisms of memory and disorders in the perception of truth, which bring the matter back to a more subjective plane. The end result is research that combines social dynamics with a more individual realm, unearthing the complicated facets of contemporary horror/error. Abbate's works-paintings, sculptures, as well as photographs and video installations-are distinguished by the desire to represent a real and grotesque world at the limit cynicism and truth. An example is provided by the Catholicism Addiction Disorder series, in which the artist triggers a reflection on the evident interference between the individual and the religious system.
